Background
Greetings,
I am Heather Klingensmith, current Sodexo employee and potential future intern. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Food Science and a Minor in Gerontology from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, in May of 2012. My course performance demonstrates a genuine interest and understanding in both of these disciplines.
Through various employment, project, practicum, and volunteer opportunities I have contributed a fair amount of my time to clinical, community, and food service positions. My clinical knowledge has been developed through coursework, dietary shadowing in both hospitals and nursing homes, and my current employment as a nutrition assistant with Sodexo at Memorial Hospital. I have also developed a fair amount of community experience through a life enrichment position at an assisted living facility (Good Samaritan Society), nutritional media development for a non-profit agency (Volunteers of America), and various coursework emphasizing methods for designing nutritional programs. In regards to food service experience, I have obtained knowledge and experience through restaurant and resort management courses, restaurant employment, practicum experience in a commercial hospital kitchen, and my current employment as a food sales adviser with Club Demonstration Services. To supplement this knowledge and experience I am also certified as a food protection manager.
In addition to my education and work experience, I have an excellent work ethic and well-developed communication skills. Through employment, practicums, and group work I have received praise for my contributions and my ability to converse positively and effectively with customers, patients, clients, and peers. Having worked with mentally debilitated and/or low-income individuals, I have found a great necessity for relaying very clear and individualized information for all persons I converse with.
I am excited to have the opportunity to participate in the field of nutrition, and I eagerly anticipate growing myself as the field continues to grow.
